Avalanche warning for region Svartisen Monday 06.02.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

General unstable conditions. Wet avalanches are expected. Unstable wind slabs may cover a persistent weak layer in lee areas. In the highest mountains where precipitation falls as snow, avoid new and fresh stormslabs. As a skier, avoid avalanche terrain.
  • The danger is greatest from Monday before noon

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Snøoverflata er påvirket av vind og nysnø natt til søndag. Ferske fokksnøflak ligger i leheng mot nord og øst. I starten av uken kom det 15-25 cm nedbør, mest ved kysten. Det gamle snødekket består stort sett av skare og smelteformer uten farlig lagdelingen.

Det har utviklet seg et lag av kantkorn høyt i snødekke over skaren og under snøen som kom etter mildværet forrige helg. Rim som ble dannet frem til lørdag kan nå ligge nedføyket.

Det har kommet ca 10 cm kram nysnø til havnivå i Rana natt til søndag.

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Sunday night. Strong breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the afternoon. -9 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 6. February 2023

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to gale from the southwest during renoon. -7 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mildvær med regn høyt til fjells øker belastningen på svake lag av kantkorn eller rim utover dagen. Naturlig utløste skred er sannsynlig enten som våte løssnøskred eller som flakskred der vedvarende svake lag er tilstede. Skredproblemet ventes først i vestlige deler av regionen. Mot Svenskegrensa kan mye av nedbøren komme som snø først på dagen og ferske fokksnøflak vil være lette å løse ut.
