At high elevations there may be fresh, reactive windslabs. At lower elevations rain will cause small wet avalanches to release naturally.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

I lavlandet er den lille mengden snø som finnes gjennomfuktet av mildvær og regn. På de alle høyeste toppene finnes det trolig tørrsnø som er preget av vind.

Det er tidligere blitt observert flere lag med kantkorn i snødekket. Det antas at siste dagers mildvær og regn har nøytralisert disse vedvarende svake lagene der hvor de har ligget høyt i snødekket.
Men høyt til fjells, hvor nedbøren har kommet som snø er det mulig at de fremdeles er intakte.

20 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from southwest. -9 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 13. April 2024

14 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -3 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mildvær og nedbør fortsetter i dag. På de høyeste toppene, hvor alt nedbør kommer som snø, kan det bygge seg opp fokksnøflak som er ustabile når de er helt ferske.

I lavlandet er snødekket blitt vant med mildvær og regn, men likevel kan våte skred ikke utelukkes helt. Unngå opphold under bratte svaberg og steder hvor glideskred kan forekomme i dag.
