Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Thursday 03.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. A skier or a snow mobile may trigger avalanches in the wind slabs formed the recent days.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 2. March 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 2. March 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -5 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 3. March 2022

3 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during renoon. -8 °C to -3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
