Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Sunday 06.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Stabile conditions, but be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow. Increased danger of small natural avalanches in sun-exposed mountainsides.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 5. March 2022

Mountain weather

Saturday 5. March 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l Saturday night. Fresh breeze from southwest. -5 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 6. March 2022

3-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from east, changing to breeze from the south during the afternoon. -9 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
