Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Friday 09.02.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wind slabs can form. Areas not affected by the wind will have safe travel conditions.

We are monitoring the development of facets in the snowpack due to high moisture content and temperature gradients. But so far is not an avalanche problem.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 8. February 2024

Mountain weather

Thursday 8. February 2024

No precipitation. Breeze from southeast. -17 °C to -9 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 9. February 2024

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast. -16 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
