Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Thursday 10.02.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 9. February 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 9. February 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the evening. Strong breeze from southwest. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 10. February 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l Thursday night. Strong breeze from west. -12 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
