Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Sunday 19.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
In the afternoon the wind picks up and there will be snow showers. Be aware of isolated wind slabs, otherwise stable conditions.
  • The danger is greatest from Sunday afternoon

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 18. February 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 18. February 2023

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from south. -14 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 19. February 2023

6 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the north during the afternoon. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Ellers stort sett stabile forhold.
