Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Sunday 07.05.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Rain from the afternoon can trigger natural wet avalanches in fresh snow in low areas. In the alpine it is possible that wind slabs are still unstable and easy to trigger in the alpine. How well new snow has bonded to the old crust is very uncertain. Most snow and highest avalanche danger around Øksfjord.

Lørdagens solskinn og mildvær har sannsynligvis fuktet snødekket høyt til fjells. Den siste uken har det kommet en del snø, mest på Øksfjordhalvøya. Det gamle snødekket var før dette fuktig, påvirket av mildvær og drenert smeltevann godt før nysnøen kom.

Snøen som kom tidligere i uken er muligens ikke bundet godt nok til underliggende skare, og det kan ha dannet seg kantkorn i eller nært overgangen ny/gammel snø. Dette vil være mest utpreget der vinden har dannet fokksnøflak, da den nedføyka nysnøen blir en grobunn for kantkorn. Dette er fortsatt ikke bekreftet i observasjon, og det er stor usikkerhet rundt det.

1-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from west, changing to breeze from the southwest during renoon. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 7. May 2023

3 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredfaren øker om ettermiddagen da det ventes nedbør som regn i lavlandet og snø i fjellet.

I lavlandet kan regnet svekke den ferske snøen, og våte løssnøskred kan løsne av seg selv i bratt terreng
I fjellet er det er usikkert om det har blitt dannet svake lag mot den eldre snøpakken. Økt pålagring kan uansett bidra til å svekke bindinger i snøen, og flak kan være lette å løse ut.

Øksfjordhalvøya har fått mest nysnø siste uken, og vil igjen få mest nedbør idag. Skredfaren er derfor størst her.
