Avalanche warning for region Voss Friday 27.12.2019

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally safe avalanche conditions. There is a persistent weak layer at the ground that can be triggered where the snowpack is thin. In some isolated areas you may find windslabs and high in the mountains you may also find thin storm slabs.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 26. December 2019

Mountain weather

Thursday 26. December 2019

No precipitation. -7 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Friday 27. December 2019

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the south during the evening. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
