Avalanche warning for region Voss Sunday 14.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Stavis mykje nedbør og aukande vind ut over dagen vil gje ferske fokksnøflak i sørlege leheng. Ein lyt også framleis vere merksam på ustabile fokksnøflak i nordvestlege til nordaustlege lesider.

Høgt til fjells i indre del av regionen kan det vere svakt lag av kantkorn som framleis kan påverkast.
