Avalanche warning for region Voss Sunday 13.03.2022

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. A persistent weak layer can be present underneath fresh wind deposited snow in isolated features.

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Mildvær siste dager har gitt skare i snøoverflaten til ca 1000 moh som myknes utover dagen med varmen eller solas påvirkning. Under ca 500 moh er hele snøpakken smelteomvandlet. Over skogen er snødekket vindpåvirket. I formasjoner skjermet for vind kan du fortsatt finne løsere snø. Rygger og kuler er avblåst ned til gammel skare.

Mildvær forrige helg, ettrfulgt av ny snø og kalde klare netter ga dannelse av kantkorn og rim i overflaten. Observasjoner indikerer at kantkorn kan ha føyka ned etter tidvis kraftig vind den siste uka.

Det er stedvis kraftig snøfokk i fjellet lørdag.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mindre sol søndag gjør at fokksnøflak i fjellet vurderes som viktigste skredproblem. Fokksnøen kan stedvis ligge på kantkorn og selv om det er vanskelig å påvirke kan ikke middels store skred utelukkes i heng mot NV.

Under mildværsgrensa vil det være lett å løse ut små våte løssnøskred i bratt terreng når snøoverflaten blir våt og myk. Enkelte våte løssnøskred kan også løsne naturlig.
