Avalanche warning for region Voss Friday 24.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

New snow with wind will create small unstable storm slabs in lee areas. Wet loose avalanches in south and west facing slopes are expected when the sun comes out.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Mildvær og regn opp til 1100 moh har tært på snøen i lavlandet. Snøpakken har vært fullstendig smelteomdannet opp til omtrent 900 moh. På torsdagen kom det rundt 10 cm nysnø fra rundt 3-400 moh.

I løpet av torsdagen kom det mer snø enn ventet og det ble observert skred nært heisanlegget i Voss. Skredene var relativt små men hadde god forplantningsevne. Det er sannsynligvis nedføyket nysnø som var det svake laget.

Det er målt stor temperaturforskjell på kort avstand høyt i snødekket. Dette kan ha først til dannelse av kantkorn, men dette er ikke bekreftet.

6-10 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the south during the afternoon. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 24. February 2023

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l Friday night. Strong breeze from north. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Tidvis kraftig vind fra nord danner ferske fokksnøflak i sydvendte heng som kan være lette å løse ut. Vær obs. i leheng der vinden flytter på snøen. Under skoggrensen er snøen påvirket av mildværet og vil være stabil utenom i enkelte brattheng.
Der solen kommer frem kan det gå små skred i bratte solvendte heng.
