Avalanche warning for region Voss Monday 13.03.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
General unstable conditions. Wet avalanches are expected. In the mountains where precipitation falls as snow, avoid new and fresh stormslabs.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 12. March 2023

Mountain weather

Sunday 12. March 2023

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from west, changing to breeze from the west during the afternoon. -16 °C to -6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 13. March 2023

8 mm precipitation, up to 16 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from south, changing to breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
