Avalanche

Avoid areas with fresh wind deposited snow. Weak faceted snow layers near the surface need time to stabilize. A skier or snow mobile may trigger fatal avalanches. Persistent weak layers of faceted snow can be triggered in areas where the overlying wind slabs are thin or soft. (NVE)

Nord-Troms

Be cautious in areas with newly formed softer slabs in sheltered areas or at tree line. These soft slabs may overlay a weak layer of near-surface facets. Be aware of danger signs. A deeper-lying persistent weak layer of facets can be triggered in areas where the overlying snowpack is thin or soft. (NVE)

Lyngen

Locally unstable conditions. Avoid areas with fresh wind slabs. Stabilization will take time in areas with near-surface facets. Be aware of potential danger signs. Be also aware that persistent weak layers of faceted crystals, deeper in the snowpack, can be triggered where the overlying wind slabs are thin or soft. (NVE)

Tromsø
