Forecast issued by NVE and MET for Balsfjord Thursday 2023-03-30

Highest danger level per day
The highest danger level per day is currently only governed by flood and landslide warnings

Flood

Green level (NVE)

Landslide

Green level (NVE)

Avalanche

Large to very large natural avalanches are expected. Avoid travel in or near avalanche terrain. Large amounts of snow and wind will overload a weak snowpack. It is uncertain where the weather will be most severe, right now it looks like it will be in the western part of the region. (NVE)

Nord-Troms

Large natural avalanches are expected. Avoid travel in or near avalanche terrain. Large amounts of snow and wind will overload a weak snowpack. It is uncertain where the weather will be most severe; right now, it looks like it will be in the region's eastern part. (NVE)

Lyngen

A good dose of snow and wind is expected. It will be easy to trigger avalanches where wind accumulates the fresh snow. In areas that receive the most snowfall, some natural avalanches might release, and remote triggering is possible. This is due to a weak snowpack after a period of cool, clear weather. (NVE)

Tromsø

New snow and wind could form wind slabs on top of loose, weak layers. Last week crisp and cold conditions formed near-surface facets, and these may get buried now. Avoid steep slopes with wind slabs. Areas with a loose snow surface will have stable conditions. Naturally released avalanches are expected in the evening. (NVE)

Sør-Troms

A good dose of snow and wind is expected. It will be easy to trigger avalanches where wind accumulates the fresh snow. In areas that receive the most snowfall, some natural avalanches might release, and remote triggering is possible. This is due to a weak snowpack after a period of cold, clear weather. (NVE)
