Forecast issued by NVE and MET for Balsfjord Wednesday 2022-04-13

Highest danger level per day
The highest danger level per day is currently only governed by flood and landslide warnings

Flood

Green level (NVE)

Landslide

Green level (NVE)

Avalanche

Conditions are dangerous. Be aware of a persistant weak layer buried by windslabs. As the weak layers are buried under hard wind slabs in many places, absence of danger signs does not necessarily mean it is safe. Be also careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow. Avoid avalanche terrain. (NVE)

Nord-Troms

Complex situation with persistent weak layers. Avalanches are triggered most easily where the snow pack is thin, typically close to ridges and on convex formations. Remote triggering from less steep terrain is possible. There are also lee-slopes with fresh wind slabs that can be triggered. Avoid steep terrain. (NVE)

Lyngen

Conditions are dangerous. Be aware of a persistent weak layer buried by old wind slabs. Avalanches can be triggered remotely. Absence of danger signs does not necessarily mean it's safe, as properties of the weak layer can vary over short distances. Be also careful in lee areas with yesterday's wind deposited snow. (NVE)

Indre Troms

There is a persistent weak layer buried in the snow pack. With generally hard wind slabs over weak layers, an absence of danger signs does not necessarily mean that it is safe. Be very careful in avalanche terrain, especially in areas with wind deposited snow. Sun triggered avalanches can occur. (NVE)

Tromsø

Conditions are still tricky. The snowpack gains strength, and warning signs are fewer. But the persistent weak are still lingering and could be easy to trigger. Large avalanches are possible. Conservative terrain choice is critical. (NVE)
